DAY 1 Arrive Paris

Arrive in Paris, the city of romance. You will be met at the airport and then transferred to your hotel. Get to know your APT Tour Director and fellow travellers as you delight in a Welcome Reception this evening as anticipation builds for the trip ahead. From world-renowned cities and charming riverside villages to spectacular valleys and medieval ruins, this journey is set to be simply magnificent.

DAY 2 Paris

Enjoy a wonderful sightseeing tour of the French capital today. See the iconic Avenue des Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe, and take a trip to the second level of the Eiffel Tower, where sweeping views over the city skyline await. Tonight, enjoy a meal and a memorable show at the Moulin Rouge. Delight in a once-in-a-lifetime evening at the iconic Parisian cabaret, captured in the famous paintings of Toulouse-Lautrec. The spectacular show features the renowned showgirls and French Cancan dancers. (BD)

DAY 3 Paris

This morning following breakfast, discover a different side of Paris during your selected sightseeing activity. Perhaps join a culinary walking tour to sample a delectable range of Paris’ fine food. Alternatively, wander through the Louvre and admire the impressive art collections as part of a guided tour. Or, perhaps soak up the village atmosphere as you explore the Montmartre district and admire the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. With time at leisure in the afternoon, you’ll delight in the chance to explore this romantic city independently.(B)

DAY 4 Paris, Ghent, Amsterdam, Embark Ship

Travel by coach through the landscapes of northern France and onto Belgium. Arrive in Ghent and enjoy a light lunch while cruising along the city’s canals. DAY 5 Amsterdam, Leeghwater

Gain an insight into rural Dutch culture today as you explore the idyllic, man-made landscapes of the Leeghwater region. Enjoy a visit to a local farm and the chance to step inside a historic wooden windmill. Return to your luxurious river ship in time for dinner later this evening. (BLD)

DAY 6 Cologne, Bonn, Andernach

Enter Germany and cruise into Cologne, a city centred around the twin spires of its famous cathedral. Choose to take a tour of this historic city, or travel to Bonn and explore the sights with a local expert guide. Later, rejoin your ship in Bonn and cruise to Andernach for an exclusive visit to Namedy Castle. This 14th-century residence is home to Princess Heide von Hohenzollern, who has kindly opened the doors of her castle just for you. Enjoy some free time to wander about the castle’s wonderful rooms, hidden nooks and breathtaking grounds at your leisure, then savour a lavish banquet in the ballroom, accompanied by a classical piano recital. DAY 7 Cochem, Koblenz

Arrive in Cochem and set off on a walking tour that includes Cochem Castle, perched on a hill overlooking the town. Or take in the sights on a guided bicycle ride. Back on board, enjoy the scenery of the Moselle Valley as you wind your way along the Moselle River, passing landscapes of lush vineyards and rolling hills. After dinner on your ship, you have the opportunity to disembark in Koblenz.(BLD)

DAY 8 Mainz

Step ashore and discover Mainz on a guided tour today. Situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Main Rivers, this charming city is renowned for its university, Romanesque cathedral and the Gutenberg Museum. Back on board later this evening, be treated to the finest European food and wine as you enjoy a superb dinner.(BLD)

DAY 9 Speyer

Having escaped damage during World War II, the city of Speyer boasts a remarkably well-preserved historic centre, built around its Romanesque cathedral. This morning, you may desire to explore the sights or simply relax while you make the most of your time at leisure, the choice is entirely yours. This afternoon, be greeted by the friendly locals of Speyer and learn about their culture and day-to-day lives as you are welcomed into their homes for a delightful afternoon tea. Re-board your ship later to enjoy yet another dinner that showcases outstanding European cuisine, accompanied by regional wines. (BLD)

DAY 10 Breisach

Cruise into Breisach where two sightseeing options await. The first, an excursion to the Black Forest region in Germany, will take you by coach through a lovely forested area, past a number of lakes as well as brilliant examples of rural German architecture. Stop in Triberg, once the home of Josef Keller, the inventor of Black Forest cake, before exploring the Black Forest Open-Air Museum. Your second option is a trip to the medieval city of Colmar, located on the Alsatian Wine Route. During a tour here, see half-timbered houses, the German-influenced old quarter, the Launch River and more. You’ll also enjoy a wine cellar visit and wine tasting. With both groups back on board, your ship departs for Switzerland while you cruise into the night. (BLD)

DAY 11 Basel, Disembark Ship, Lyon, Embark Ship

Disembark your ship for the last time in Basel and journey via Lake Geneva, where you’ll enjoy time to have lunch at your leisure. Formed by a retreating glacier, the incredible landscape of the region affords some truly breathtaking views. Later, cross into France and arrive in Lyon to board your luxurious river ship.(BD)

DAY 12 Lyon

Discover Lyon, a beautiful and dynamic French city shaped by the two rivers that run through its centre, the Rhône and the Saône. Perhaps learn about the city’s historic areas, much of which are World Heritage-listed, on a guided tour. You will then visit a silk workshop in the exciting Croix-Rousse district where Lyon’s silk weavers worked during the 15th century at a time when the city became an important trade centre. Alternatively, learn why Lyon is considered the gastronomic centre of France on a culinary tour. Visit a fresh food market and enjoy tastings of the local produce. Lyonnaise cuisine emerged in the 16th century when Catherine de Medici brought cooks from Florence to her court, who originally combined the fresh, diverse, and indigenous nature of French regional produce with the expertise of Florentine chefs. This evening, experience French cuisine at its finest during dinner at L’Abbaye de Collonges, a famous restaurant owned by acclaimed Michelin-starred French chef Paul Bocuse. This renowned chef won his Meilleur Ouvrier de France title in 1961 and his third Michelin star in 1965. Operating for more than 50 years, the main dining room ‘La salle du Grand Limonaire’, features an organ equivalent of an astounding 110-musician orchestra. A unique instrument that dates back to 1900, it was hidden from the Germans during the war in 1915, and was not rediscovered until 1966. (BLD)

DAY 13 Belleville, Beaujolais Region, Vienne

The charming town of Belleville, set on the glorious Saône River, is the ideal starting point for your discovery of the Beaujolais region today. Perhaps explore the picturesque natural area known as The Dombes, home to more than one thousand ponds. You’ll visit a farm to taste local delights, then stop in the town of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, where those who are feeling adventurous are able to sample the local specialty – frog legs. Alternatively, enjoy some time at leisure in the hilltop village of Oingt, then partake in a wine tasting at a family-owned winery where you’ll also learn about the history of winemaking in the region. Rejoin your ship later and cruise to Vienne for some time at leisure to explore after dinner.(BLD)

DAY 14 Tournon, Viviers

Tucked between the vine-covered hills of the Rhône Valley, Tournon’s rich wine-making traditions, stunning scenery and majestic castle make it a lovely place to visit. Choose to ride aboard the historic Ardèche Steam Train through the nearby Ardèche Mountains. The scenery here in the Gorges du Doux region is spectacular, teeming with rolling hills, forests and craggier landscapes with awe-inspiring cliffs. Alternatively, stroll around Eden Park Garden, a beautiful botanic garden nestled in the heart of Tournon. The garden winds uphill in the grounds of an ancient convent, the Couvent des Moins ses Cordeliers. As you make your way through the woodland landscapes, you will be rewarded with spectacular views over Tournon with the river stretching out below. Following your preferred sightseeing activity, re-board your ship and continue cruising to the delightful town of Viviers, as you savour sublime French cuisine during dinner. DAY 15 Viviers, Grignan

Join a truffle farmer and his dogs to sniff out then taste the rare and prized truffles. Then, journey to the village of Grignan, surrounded by beautiful Provençal lavender fields and enveloped by high fortifications. Enjoy a tour of the incredible Grignan Castle, originally built in the 12th century. Here, you will delight in a Cocktail Reception and savour a tasting of sensational regional produce. (BLD)

DAY 16 Avignon

A local guide will take you on a discovery of Avignon, a city surrounded by impressive stone ramparts. Pay a visit to the iconic Palace of the Popes, the world’s largest Gothic palace which served as a fortress, a church and a residence to the Popes that once governed the Christian world. In the afternoon, travel to the Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct that stands some 50 metres above the Gardon River. This evening, enjoy dinner on board. (BLD)

DAY 17 Arles

From Arles, head to Les Baux-de-Provence for a tour of the castle ruins. Then visit an olive mill and farm in Saint Rémy de Provence to discover the Provençal tradition of olive growing. Alternatively, tour the World Heritage-listed ancient Roman relics in Arles. The earliest of the relics being the arena, the Roman theatre and the cryptoporticus, all date back to the first century B.C. Afterwards, both groups will then enjoy a free afternoon to further explore the wonders of Arles on your own or simply relax on board. Later in the evening, attend a special Captain’s Farewell Dinner as you enjoy your final evening on board your luxurious cruise. (BLD)

DAY 18 Arles, Disembark Ship, Perpignan, Barcelona

After breakfast, disembark in Arles, and travel from southern France on to the medieval town of Perpignan. After a stop here, continue to Barcelona and arrive at your hotel, situated on Barcelona’s iconic boulevard, Las Ramblas, within the lively artistic and commercial centre. The evening is at your leisure to explore this magnificent city.(B)

DAY 19 Barcelona

Your sightseeing begins with a fascinating guided city tour, taking in many famous sights as well as a number of the incredible structures collectively World Heritage-listed under ‘works of Antoni Gaudí’. See the Sagrada Família, an unfinished yet breathtaking Roman Catholic church that is considered the icon of the city. Then explore Park Güell, one of the city’s most famous attractions, where you can admire an inspiring collection of Gaudí’s esteemed sculptures and architecture. This evening, reflect upon the adventure that has just passed by with your new-found friends during a special Farewell Dinner. (BD)

DAY 20 Barcelona, Freedom of Choice

After breakfast this morning, you’ll enjoy the opportunity to select the sightseeing activity that best suits your interests. Perhaps join an enthralling Gothic walking tour to explore the city’s incredible architecture. During the tour, you’ll wander through narrow alleys that lead to tiny plazas. Discover some of the city’s oldest Roman and medieval religious centres tucked away between modern city buildings. Alternatively, you may like to enhance your photography skills during a guided photography tour. Learn from your guide on how to photograph some of the city’s incredible subjects, as well as how to capture their best angles. (B)

DAY 21 Depart Barcelona
