DAY 3 Umbria

Following breakfast at the hotel, transfer to central Umbria for the next 3 nights, where you will stay in a traditional villa or agriturismo (farm-stay) in the gorgeous countryside. On the way, we will stop to visit the amazing tiny hilltop village of Civita di Bagnoregio, which can only be reached on foot by a long, steep footbridge (not for the faint-hearted, comfortable walking shoes recommended).

Today’s journey will include other stops along the way for some fantastic photo opportunities and a light lunch, at your expense. Time permitting, we will also visit an olive oil mill and museum to sample some local virgin olive oil, wine and other Umbrian products. Be sure to stock up for this evening’s dinner.

After checking-in, you will have some time to freshen up before enjoying a home-cooked meal in-house tonight. (BD)
Stay:Agriturismo/Farmhouse Antica Fattoria del Colle or similar

DAY 4 Umbria

After breakfast, we will explore this unspoiled area of undulating hills, vineyards and olive groves peppered with medieval villages.

Our first stop is Cantina Monte Vibiano Vechhio winery for a tour, cellar visit and wine tasting with a difference. The Eco-Tour will begin in eco-friendly electric powered golf buggies for a ride through the vineyards and olive groves of this family estate. We will then visit the wine cellars before relaxing in the architecturally designed tasting room to sample 4 wines and the estate’s award winning olive oil.

Next, we will make our way to the lovely little village of Paciano in time for lunch at one of the area’s popular restaurants. A beautiful spot to relax and enjoy their Italian fare, including a selection of home-made antipasti, pastas & pizza to enjoy under the shade of the vines on the terrace.

After lunch, we will visit the nearby village of Panicale for a wander around the old town before heading to another winery for some more wine tasting of the local varieties. We will return to the accommodation in the late afternoon to allow you to rest and freshen up before dinner.

Dinner – Transfer to dinner at a nearby restaurant in a beautiful countryside setting that is considered by many locals to produce the best meals in the area. At your expense. (BL)

DAY 5 Umbria

Breakfast at accommodation followed by a visit to Perugia, Umbria’s lovely hilltop capital city, where there will be some free time for shopping and exploring the beautiful old town.  Travel up to the centre on the mini metro/monorail which glides effortlessly up the hill, providing a unique perspective and introduction to this ancient city. For a quick lunch there is a great “hole in the wall” place that sells pizza by the slice or many pasticcerias (bakeries) and bars to choose from for those preferring something sweet to eat with their espresso coffee.

In the afternoon, travel to a nearby winery for an unforgettable experience. First, we will be taken on a tour of the Estate’s Farm to see where their Cinta Sinese pigs and goats are raised. These are used to create their own fantastic fresh pork products and cheeses, which we will then have the chance to taste together with 2 wines (one white, one red) bread and olive oil from the estate.

Dinner/Cooking Class – Transfer back to the accommodation to freshen up before the private in-house cooking class begins. You may participate as much or as little as you like whilst local cooks display their culinary skills to prepare some traditional Umbrian dishes. Afterwards, you will enjoy the spoils for a leisurely dinner with a few glasses of wine. (BD)

Here, you can have your first taste of the dark, full bodied Sagrantino, its lighter cousin Montefalco Rosso or even some sparkling white or rose wine.

We will also take some time to discover one of the few Umbrian villages that is not on a hilltop, Bevagna. According to history, this is where the ancient Romans came for their rest and relaxation between battles. With its collection of Romanesque churches, Roman mosaic and Medieval workshops, Bevagna has something for everyone. There will be time for you to continue your discovery of Umbrian cuisine by stopping for lunch in one of Bevagna’s excellent restaurants.
