DAY 1 ARRIVE CAPE TOWN

Your journey begins today upon your arrival in Cape Town. You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your five-star hotel. Settle in to your surrounds and this evening, enjoy a Welcome Reception and get to know your APT Tour Director and fellow guests.

DAY 2 CAPE TOWN

FREEDOM OF CHOICE™ – Sightseeing

This afternoon, you might prefer to tour Constantia Winelands and learn more about the local wine industry. Alternatively, take a ferry to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned; or set off on a township tour.

Tonight, choose from a selection of restaurants to dine at.

On a city tour this morning, ride the aerial cableway to the top of Table Mountain and take in stunning views, before visiting the Castle of Good Hope.

DAY 3 CAPE TOWN, CAPE PENINSULA

Journey along the winding, scenic coastal road of Chapman’s Peak Drive today to Cape Point, a nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park. Take in the majestic South African beach scenery before continuing on to historic Simon’s Town which has been an important naval base for more than 200 years. A few kilometres away from Simon’s Town is Boulders Beach. Make a visit here and see a colony of penguins up close before returning to Cape Town.

DAY 4 CAPE TOWN, KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

This morning, board your plane and fly from Cape Town to Kruger National Park, where you enter the private Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Settle in to your accommodation and enjoy the scenery as you relax with sundowner drinks.

DAY 5 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Enjoy a boma dinner under the stars at Kruger National Park.

Rise early before heading out on a morning game drive with experienced trackers. It’s then back to your lodge for some time to relax and enjoy lunch before setting off on another game drive this afternoon. During both drives you’ll experience incredible encounters with Africa’s Big Five.

DAY 6 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, LIVINGSTONE, VICTORIA FALLS

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Savour dinner as you journey over the Victoria Falls bridge aboard the Royal Livingstone Express steam train.


Fly to Livingstone in Zambia and arrive at your hotel, which is located on the stunning Zambezi River. Settle in to your hotel before taking a short walk through the hotel’s gardens to thundering Victoria Falls.

DAY 7 LIVINGSTONE

FREEDOM OF CHOICE™ – Sightseeing

Today brings with the chance to explore Livingstone and its surrounds with your choice of activity. Perhaps trace the steps of Dr Livingstone on Chief Mukuni’s Village Cultural Tour then visit the Maramba Market. Or enjoy a rhino-walking safari in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, an excursion which gives you the chance of encountering the endangered white rhino at close quarters in a safe environment. Alternatively, you might like to marvel at the spectacular sight of thundering Victoria Falls from the heights of a helicopter flight.

Return to your hotel and enjoy time at leisure this evening.

DAY 8 LIVINGSTONE, KASANE, CHOBE RIVER, EMBARK RIVERBOAT

Take in incredible game viewing on safari boat rides along the Chobe River over two days.

Travel by coach and boat into Namibia today. Upon arrival in Namibia, you will be transferred to your riverboat. With such a vast number of animals who call the surrounds of the Chobe River home, your chances of spotting game are very high. This evening, join your fellow guests for a Welcome Dinner on board your riverboat as you take in the tranquil scenery and sounds of Chobe National Park.

DAY 9 CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, CHOBE RIVER

FREEDOM OF CHOICE™ – Sightseeing

Wake to a beautiful sunrise overlooking the Chobe as you prepare for another day of safari boat rides, and the chance to see the many elephants that call the Chobe home. After lunch, you are able to explore the surrounding area by choosing from two Freedom of Choice options. You might like to take a journey to a Namibian village to gain an insight into the culture of the locals. Alternatively, if you fancy yourself as an avid fisher, you might like to take the opportunity to try your hand at catching bream and tigerfish.

Rejoin the rest of your fellow guests late this afternoon and enjoy the sunset before dinner on board.

DAY 10 DISEMBARK SHIP, JOHANNESBURG

Disembark after breakfast and cross the border into Botswana for your onward flight to Johannesburg. Spend the night here before you continue on the next part of your journey to East Africa.

DAY 11 JOHANNESBURG, ARUSHA

Fly via Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to the city of Arusha. Transfer to your hotel, on the grounds of a coffee plantation and settle in with Welcome Drinks in the evening.

DAY 12 ARUSHA, TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Visit a Maasai village where the women are learning to grow vegetable gardens.

Depart Arusha by 4WD today and head to Tarangire National Park, arriving in the afternoon. Settle in and head out on your first game drive here.

DAY 13 TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

The plains of Tarangire National Park are home to an incredible amount of animals, but they are most famous for the annual elephant migration. Rise early this morning, to get up close to these gentle giants on your morning game drive. Return to your camp for lunch before heading out again on another game drive with your experienced driver/tracker. This evening savour another dinner at your camp.

DAY 14 TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK, NGORONGORO CRATER

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Visit a local school in Tanzania.

Depart Tarangire National Park after breakfast this morning. You’ll be staying close to the Ngorongoro Crater, which is the world’s largest inactive, and unfilled volcanic crater. This afternoon, perhaps take an included optional game drive through Lake Manyara National Park before enjoying some time to relax.

DAY 15 NGORONGORO

Enjoy a game drive into the Ngorongoro Crater. During your time at the crater today, you’ll also stop for a picnic lunch, giving you time to take in the surrounds. Voted as one of the Seven Wonders of Africa, the crater’s high walls are a natural enclosure to vast numbers of animals. Among them are wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and lions.

DAY 16 OLDUVAI GORGE, SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Take a private tour of Olduvai Gorge. One of the world’s most important prehistoric sites, evidence of early humans has been made here, and the gorge is known as the ‘cradle of mankind’.

Watch for wildlife as you travel to your spectacular lodge with expansive views over the Serengeti.

DAY 17 SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Head out on an early morning game drive, keeping a close eye out for the animals that call the park home. See how the endless dry grasslands collide with a brilliant sky. Later, enjoy the infinity pool and views of the waterhole at your lodge. On your afternoon game drive, your trackers will ensure you have the best chance of spotting lions, elephants, buffalos, and leopard.

DAY 18 SERENGETI NATIONAL, MASAI MARA

Take a light aircraft flight into Tanzania. Land and cross the border into Kenya, before a picturesque flight to the Masai Mara.

DAY 19 MASAI MARA

Perhaps embark on a balloon safari over the Masai Mara (own expense, must be pre-booked. See notes). Later, enjoy the Masai on morning and afternoon game drives.
