ITINERARY

DAY 1 Uluru

Welcome to the heart of Australia. Begin your discovery of the Red Centre this afternoon with a visit to the Uluru and Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. The cultural centre will introduce you to the foundation of the Anangu people who are the traditional owners. Learn about Tjukurpa the indigenous law that guides Anangu daily life. Your special stay for the next two nights is Sails in the Desert, where you will enjoy a welcome dinner. (D)

DAY 2 Uluru

Freechoice: Be filled with wonder as the sun rises over Uluru followed by breakfast and an informative walking tour of significant sights around the base of Uluru, or choose a Harley Davidson motorcycle ride to the viewing point overlooking Uluru. Alternatively see the desert from the top of a camel or enjoy a trek around the base of Uluru. Discover the mysteries of Kata Tjuta and Walpa Gorge during your afternoon visit.

Enrich: Enjoy a unique dining experience set amidst the ‘Field of Light’ art installation created by British artist Bruno Munro, featuring thousands of bulbs planted in the desert surrounding Uluru. As the sun sets and the lights start to twinkle, just like the stars above, you’ll enjoy canapes and authentic Australian cuisine. (BD)

DAY 3 Uluru > Kings Canyon

Travel to the rugged Watarrka National Park, home of the dramatic Kings Canyon. Soak up the atmosphere and take a walk along the rim, a six kilometre discovery including the luscious Garden of Eden, a beautiful area of cool waterholes and riverine vegetation. Or stroll along the canyon floor for a more relaxed walk along the creek bed. Your overnight stay is at the Kings Canyon Resort.(BD)

DAY 4 Kings Canyon > Alice Springs

As you approach Alice Springs, travel across vast cattle properties and get a feel of just how expansive the outback is. You will observe the majesty of the East McDonnell Ranges. Alice Springs is Australia’s most famous outback town, enjoy a city tour including visits to the legendary Royal Flying Doctor Service and School of the Air. Witness a live classroom lesson broadcast over 1.3 million square kilometres to children living in remote locations who would otherwise have no access to public education. Your hotel in Alice Springs is the lovely Doubletree by Hilton.

DAY 5 Alice Springs

Freechoice: Journey by 4WD along a riverbed to the oasis of Palm Valley via Hermannsburg historic precinct and discover the works of Albert Namatijira at the Art Gallery. Alternatively, experience the grandeur of the West McDonnell Ranges and Simpson Gap and see the deep red cleft of Standley Chasm or meet the famous kangaroos from the documentary ‘Kangaroo Dundee’ with a visit to the Kangaroo Sanctuary. DAY 6 Alice Springs > The Ghan

Enjoy a morning at leisure before your Aboriginal Cultural Tour to the Alice Springs Desert Park where Australia’s desert environment effortlessly blends with the plants, animals and people of the region. Learn how the people have lived in the harsh environment for thousands of years. All aboard for our overnight special stay in the luxury of Gold Class on the famous Ghan train. Named after the Afghan cameleers who opened up the centre of Australia many years ago, this is one of the world’s greatest train journeys. Relax in the Outback Explorer Lounge before dinner in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant. Tonight, try the roast kangaroo fillet with crocodile boudin blanc (white sausage), potato purée and quandong jus. Crocodile has long been a Northern Territory bushfood staple and the crocodile boudin blanc featured on the menu has been created in collaboration with award- winning small goods purveyor, Barossa Fine Foods. DAY 7 The Ghan > Darwin

Enjoy breakfast on board as you gaze out of the window taking inspiration from the ever-changing landscape.
Upon arrival in Katherine choose between a guided cruise through Katherine Gorge, marvel at the towering red ochre sandstone walls and hear stories of the Jawoyn people or The Ghan’s cultural experience will take you to the heart of this area. Create your own indigenous painting, learn to throw a spear and hear ancient Dreamtime tales. Reboard the train and travel to Darwin for a two night stay. (BD)

DAY 8 Darwin

Freechoice

Cruise on the Adelaide River, home to the ‘jumping crocodiles’ or take a day trip to Litchfield National Park. Enjoy a cruise on Darwin Harbour or take the jump-on-jump-off bus around town. Alternatively take a tour of the WWII Bombing of Darwin.(B)

DAY 9 Darwin > Mary River

On your wetlands cruise this morning be amazed at the variety of bird life. Enjoy your Special Stay tonight. Built with materials recycled from an 1800s cattle station, this remote lodge and cabin complex is set amongst the wetlands of Mary River National Park. (BLD)

Day 10 Mary River > Darwin

Return to Darwin this morning and say goodbye to your new friends, before returning home with many great memories. Flights to depart after 12:30pm. (B)
